New or old xbox, which to buy?

Postby martell22 » Wed Aug 25, 2010 3:28 pm

My boyfriends old xbox that he has had for around 4 years just experience the ring of death, went through the fixing process(such a waste of time) nothing happend, worked for like 2 minutes. So hes on the road to buying a new one and asked if i could do some research on the 2.

I'm aware of all the fancy things the new one does, definatly worth it if your into the wi-fi and blueray stuff and even a better picture, but he has a blueray player for his HD tv so it wouldnt matter new or old.

The real question is..which one lasts longer, is it worth paying the extra $50 for a new machine? i personally think it is i just want to know if its going to last any longer than the older xbox, if it's not going to last any longer then why bother really. All he wants is to play his occational games extras are not needed, nor does he play live with other people often to care.

So if someone could give me a straight answer on if the new one is going to last any longer than a new old xbox that would be great.

Ps i know the new ones are a beauty to look at to :)

Thanks, Lia

Get the new one. Its the same price as the old ones, and you get way more stuff. The new ones have a much less chance of having a console failure. You can play it for 5 hours strait and it wont die. It may get a bit hot, but it wont die. Its smaller and much quieter than the old one, so it doesnt sound like a lawnmower hooked up to your tv. The built in wifi is really fast. I was able to hook up to a wifi network that was two houses down and get better connection than the one in my house. The new one does have a disc scratching problem, but its only if you move it from laying down to standing up while the disc is running. Its just common sense to not move it while theres a disc in there.

In short, buy the new slim model. It will last WAY longer than the older one. It has a giant fan right over the part that heats up, which means more play time and less time waiting for microsoft to send you junk.

You can consider buying Xbox 360 Slim 250 gb New :

Xbox 360 pros 250 GB slim
Xbox 360 S Pros
- Nearly silent when compared with the original 360.
- Smaller with a slimmer look.
- Built in wireless N and its fast.
- Integrated optical audio.
- 5 usb ports.
- Internal, but easily accessible 250gb HDD on the bottom of the console.
- Uses half the power of the original.
- Works with most of the old accessories, including the transfer cable.

Xbox 360 S cons
- The IR receiver is located lower on the console and appears to have a narrower field. So depending on setup using a remote maybe a headache.
- Only comes with standard def av cables.
- Does not use the old memory cards or hard drives.
- Touch sensitive buttons that when touch emit a soft tone.
- Kinect ready socket in the back.
