'91 Nissan Pathfinder vs. '84 Toyota 4Runner?

Postby ottokar57 » Wed Aug 25, 2010 4:42 am

I am 16 and will be getting my license soon, so as you may have expected, I am looking for a vehicle. I am looking for something in the 4wd small-mid sized SUV range; something that can endour some basic off-road action, nothing extream like rock crawling. After much research and searching i have narrowed it down to two vehicles which i found suitable and, personally, visually appealing: "1991 Nissan Pathfinder" and "1984 Toyota 4Runner". I find that the 4Runner gets better gas mileage [only coming in 4-cylinder] but co-responding to that, the Pathfinder engine [4wd only coming in 6-cylinder] would last longer.
-Any thoughts/experiences/tips regarding the comparison of these 2 vehicles? Or any recommendations for other vehicles. Yet again, looking for a reliable 4wd vehicle with fair gas mileage.
P.S.- automatic transmission = lame sh1t, man

since it appears that you dont want to go with a Jeep, I would suggest the Pathfinder. A 4cyl has no business even having 4wd in my opinion, and an engine is much more expensive to replace than the small difference in mpg. However, i have seen some 4runners take a serious beating and keep running. I would recommend having whichever car you choose checked our prior to inspection by a professional used car inspection company- especially since they'll probably be higher miles that old- so that you dont end up with any hidden issues.
