When will routine infant circumcision (forced genital mutilation) be outlawed in this nation?

To the religious.

If god created us in his image, then the foreskin is apart of his image. Circumcision is an abhorrent mutilation of the perfection that is man.

To the nonreligious.

The foreskin evolved for a reason, and it's there for a reason. A man should have a say on whether he wants it before you chop it off.

Take the quiz for yourself.

1. As regards pain, circumcision:

A. does not hurt.

B. Is excruciating for an infant as well as an adult. Tightening the circumcision clamp puts crushing pressure on a large area of sensitive skin.

2. The foreskin is:

A. a useless piece of skin

B. an integral part of the male sexual organ, containing most of the nerve endings of sexual pleasure.

3. During circumcision, the infant:

A. goes to sleep.

B. withdraws into a state of neurogenic shock (coma), due to sudden massive pain.

4. With respect to functions, the foreskin:

A. has no function. It is “just a piece of skin.”

B. has at least three major functions:

1. protection of the glans penis, an internal organ.

2. coverage of the shaft of the elongated, erect penis.

3. provision of most of the nerves for sexual response

(the ridged bands on the inner lining of the foreskin).

5. With respect to cancer of the penis, circumcision:

A. prevents it.

B. has nothing to do with penile cancer.(American Cancer Society, 1989)

6. With respect to ethics, a doctor who performs a circumcision:

A. is practicing reasonable medicine.

B. violates all seven Principles of the AMA Code of Ethics; violates a primary tenet of health care, First, Do No Harm; and violates the Golden Rule.

7. With respect to human rights, a doctor who performs a circumcision:

A. is within his rights.

B. violates a basic human right, the right to an intact body. The infant has the right not to have normal body parts removed without his express consent. The doctor has failed to obtain the informed consent of the mutilee. The doctor is violating the Nuremberg Code of Ethics, which regulates experimentation on humans.

8. With respect to safety, circumcision is:

A. safe

B. kills an unknown number of U.S. infants every year.

9. With respect to complications, circumcision has:

A. very few complications

B. a 100% complication rate – in every instance the loss of a useful organ. In addition, there are many unrecorded complications, including deaths. Health costs of circumcised boys 5x those of intact boys!

10. The loss of foreskin:

A. has no effect on later life.

B. contributes to inferior sexual relations, which leads to increased divorce rates, increased violence, increased exposure to sexually transmitted diseases, and contributes to impotence, especially after age 40.

Never, as long as parents keep making this decision without getting fully informed about the realities of circumcision.

The answers to your quiz are obviously all "B" for anyone who examines all the evidence impartially.

For your #4.B I would add: 4. prevents removal of lubrication from the vagina during intercourse. The corona of a circumcised penis acts as a scraper during the "backstroke". and 5. provides something for your partner to stimulate during foreplay.

NOTE TO Old_Quil: "Forced" means forced upon the defenseless baby; it's his penis after all.

It isn't an absolute religious requirement for Jews or Muslims. Check these websites:
Jews against circumcision
Muslims against Circumcision
Catholics against Circumcision

other than indicating that you spend a lot of time out of the day thinking about foreskin, this would seem to be a pretty good argument against government involvement in health care.....I hope you can figure it out.

I'm a Christian so circumcision is not necessary to my faith, but if I were Jewish I would want the right to honor the covenant God established with the Jewish people in the Bible.

Wow !!! What was the question again ?

Well I suppose it just might depend on whether Obama is circumcised or not !

The Jews always make a great fuss about this but this bit about the Convenant was only stuck in the Bible about 420 B.C.

And Abraham wasn't a Jew anyway. Up until my lifetime, Jewish boys were circumcised at 14.
Not as infants.

Infant circumcision has nothing to do with Islam. It was a sort of Jewish carry over.
Again it was done, if at all, at age of Consent.

The idea that parents OWN their son's bodies smacks of SLAVERY.
Slave-traders thought exactly the same thing about THEIR slaves.

Wasn't there a Civil War fought about this.

I think the politicians should simply extend the Statute of Limitation so that boys who are cut under the age of Consent can sue doctors for bad cirk's retrospectively.

How can you outlaw a religious practice. Someone going to be the "inspectors" of babies genitalia? Who you going to prosecute? the parents? the person who did it who isn't an MD?

I'm an atheist and I'm glad I was circumcised. It would be much more difficult to keep your foreskin clean.
