Cigarette Health Warnings on the front of cigarette packs getting smaller??? ( uk question)?

Postby angor85 » Tue Feb 23, 2010 7:31 am

I noticed this last week on a box of silk cut. I was on my lunch break and decided to pop into another shop for a packet of cigarettes. When I got into work in the staff room I noticed the health warnings looked slightly small. So I though I would go onto the shop floor of my work place and compare the health warning with a box of our silk cut and the health warnings were bigger by quite a large margin. I though that maby I bought a dodgey pack of cigarettes but when we got our cigarette delivery with boxes of silk cut and other 10 pack boxes of cigarettes the health warnings are appearing smaller. I decided to look into this further and ive noticed it on the following cigarette boxes... Amber leaf rolling tobacco 12.5g , Pall Mall Red,blue, orange, green, Marlboro red,gold,100s and many more and not just on 20 packs either. So what is the government playing at? sometimes I really wonder what goes though their heads. I think another stupid move was to put pictures on the back of packets, why not the front? also you may have noticed that they have got rid of some of the Original health warnings such as
* Smokers die younger
* Smoking clogs the arteries and causes heart attacks and strokes
* Smoking causes fatal lung cancer
* Smoking when pregnant harms your baby
* Protect children: don't make them breathe your smoke
* Your doctor or your pharmacist can help you stop smoking
* Smoking is highly addictive, don't start
* Stopping smoking reduces the risk of fatal heart and lung diseases
* Smoking can cause a slow and painful death
* Get help to stop smoking: [telephone]
* Smoking may reduce the blood flow and cause impotence
* Smoking causes ageing of the skin
* Smoking can damage the sperm and decreases fertility
* Smoke contains benzene, nitrosamines, formaldehyde and hydrogen cyanide

from the front of to the back of cigarette packets in small wwritingand a picture. In the past these warnings aappearedon the front and back of packs at random. Now all you see on the front of cigarette packets is " smoking kills" and " smoking seriously harms you and others around you". So you need to aactuallyposses a packet of cigarettes to see any other warnings.

So why cant the goverment just bite the bullet and just admit they need smokers, not messing about with this pathetic deception while trying to make it seem like they are doing good?

What do you think about this?

Smoking costs the NHS billions every year as well as further billions of loses to UK business. The government don't need smokers nor do you actually prop up anything through your cig tax.

Warnings on the pack don't deter smokers.
AAAAAnd, do you know how many states' economies are dependent on tobacco?
AAAAAAAnd, do you know how big the tobacco lobby is in D.C.?
Those are just 3 reasons; there are many more.
